Il quartiere Le Fornaci è situato nella periferia est della città di Pistoia. Il suo progetto di edilizia popolare, risalente agli anni ottanta, fu elaborato dall’architetto Leonardo Savioli e realizzato dallo IACP. L’intento di Savioli era di realizzare un nuovo quartiere che non avesse un aspetto cosiddetto popolare, nel senso quasi dequalificante del termine, bensì una struttura cittadina nuova e dignitosa. Nell'ideazione degli edifici vengono preferite forme geometriche pure che alludono agli elementi del paesaggio e della città storica di Pistoia, come il Triangolo, il Nastro, che rappresentano rispettivamente il monte e il fiume, la Certosa e le Torri.
The Le Fornaci district is located on the eastern outskirts of the city of Pistoia. Its social housing project, dating back to the 1980s, was drawn up by architect Leonardo Savioli and realised by the IACP. Savioli's intention was to create a new neighbourhood that would not have a so-called 'popular' appearance, in the almost de-qualifying sense of the term, but rather a new and dignified city structure. In the design of the buildings, pure geometric shapes were preferred, alluding to the elements of the landscape and the historical city of Pistoia, such as the Triangle and the Ribbon, representing the mountain and the river respectively, the Certosa and the Towers.
